Botox is an injectable made by Allergan that improves the appearance of frown and forehead lines, crow’s feet that result from age, stress and overactive muscles. This natural, purified protein, injected in very low doses, relaxes the overactive muscles that cause unwanted facial lines to form. Botox has been used for more than 11 years to treat one million patients worldwide. Botox has been proven as a safe and effective therapy and approved for cosmetic use by the FDA.
Treatment is simple and non-surgical. No anesthesia is required, although we will use an anesthetic cream to numb the area. A specified amount of Botox is injected into the skin in the areas to be treated. The process takes approximately 10 minutes. Results last 3-4 months.
There are minimal side effects associated with Botox injections, however some patients might experience slight swelling of the treated area. Following a Botox treatment, the area usually takes about 5-10 days to soften and the results last between 3-5 months or longer if you follow recommendations for maintenance treatments. A repeat maintenance treatment should be performed after that time. Over time, patients require less frequent visits as they break the habit of contracting frown lines and other muscles of facial expression.
