Microneedling vs. HydraFacial: What's the Difference?

Microneedling vs. HydraFacial: What's the Difference?

If you’re self-conscious about wrinkles, skin discoloration, acne scars, or dry skin, microneedling and HydraFacials can both help. Microneedling harnesses the healing power of your own body, while HydraFacial treatments uses custom serums for your precise skin type.

With offices in Rancho Santa Margarita and Mission Viejo, California, Orange Coast Dermatology offers innovative skin treatments to enhance your appearance. Our expert team creates customized treatment plans based on your goals and budget.

If you’re unhappy with dull skin, wrinkles, or volume loss, microneedling and HydraFacial treatments both help with the appearance of aging skin. Here’s how.

How microneedling works

Elastin and collagen are proteins in your skin that keep you looking youthful, vibrant, and hydrated. Your skin produces less elastin and collagen as you age, which can lead to wrinkles, sagging, and dullness.

Microneedling is a treatment that delivers controlled damage to your skin, forcing your skin to heal itself. Our experts use a radiofrequency tool with many tiny needles that puncture your skin, triggering more collagen and elastin production.

The benefits of microneedling

Microneedling offers stunning results, erasing acne scars, reducing discoloration, and minimizing marks and blemishes. Microneedling also restores lost volume, smoothing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

If you’re concerned about acne scars, consider a microneedling procedure. This treatment not only smooths out acne scars but also reduces the appearance of acne and minimizes the size of your pores. Microneedling improves your skin’s overall tone and texture as well.

While microneedling is an ideal treatment for pockmarks, acne scars, and minor blemishes, it’s not appropriate for active acne outbreaks or deep or raised scars.

How HydraFacials work

HydraFacials are a patented non-invasive skin therapy that offers instant results for all skin types without downtime. Each 30-90 minute treatment involves microdermabrasion-like exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and extract impurities while cleansing and moisturizing with hydrating serums.

We achieve amazing HydraFacial results using a mechanized wand to clean, exfoliate, and deeply moisturize using serums customized for your skin type. This three-step process is refreshing, soothing, and immediately effective.

HydraFacials are non-irritating and gentle enough to treat many skin conditions like acne, wrinkles, or dryness. The treatment is much like a regular facial, except you leave our offices with more dramatic results.

The benefits of HydraFacials

HydraFacials are meant to improve overall skin texture, tone, and appearance. During your treatment, the HydraFacial wand cleans your pores deeply, removing debris and allowing your tailored face serums to penetrate more effectively.

Experts have long considered microdermabrasion techniques to be effective in treating acne and acne scars, likely because of the deep exfoliation that eliminates pore-clogging skin cells. The same exfoliating and extracting methods used in the HydraFacial may effectively treat this noninflammatory form of acne.

Patients with sensitive skin conditions often have trouble finding safe and gentle treatments, but HydraFacials may be beneficial for rosacea and eczema. If you’re concerned about aging skin, this treatment can significantly reduce signs of aging, including decreasing pore size and fine lines.

Which treatment is right for me?

HydraFacials and microneedling are both recommended for all skin tones and textures. However, if you need treatment for acne scars, microneedling is a better option than a HydraFacial. Microneedling is the minimally invasive gold standard for replacing elasticity and firming up your skin.

On the other hand, HydraFacials are an excellent way to maintain youthful, glowing skin. They clean deeply and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They’re also gentle enough for patients with sensitive skin.
