Start Laser Hair Removal Now and Be Silky Smooth by Summer

Here in Southern California, we’re privileged to enjoy warmer weather all year long. Even so, this may be the time of year when you’re least thinking about baring your bod on the beach. But what if there was a permanent hair removal technique you could start now to get silky smooth skin just in time for the summer?

This is where laser hair removal comes in. You may have heard of it, but did you know it’s been approved by the FDA since 1964? It’s a safe, effective way to remove hair in the short term while letting you maintain reduced hair growth in the long term.

At Orange Coast Dermatology in Rancho Santa Margarita, Orange, and Mission Viejo, California, laser hair removal is one of our most in-demand aesthetic services. Learn why it has such enduring popularity — and how it works to get rid of unwanted hair over the course of a few quick treatment sessions.

How does laser hair removal work?

At Orange Coast Dermatology, our professionals use top-of-the-line inMode laser technology to perform laser hair removal. The inMode laser uses a selective photothermolysis to remove unwanted hair by targeting the pigment, or melanin, in each follicle.

The light from the laser is absorbed by your hair’s pigment and then converted to heat, which damages the follicles, thereby preventing future hair growth. Hair is not only removed instantly, but grows back lighter, thinner, and more slowly over time.

While we can’t guarantee 100% permanent hair removal, results from your first round of treatments — usually three to six sessions — will last for a year or longer. If you continue treatment when your hair grows back more sparsely in the future, you’ll need far fewer hair removal sessions to maintain silky smooth skin.

Who is laser hair removal for?

You may have heard that laser hair removal works for people with dark hair and pale skin. While this combination of features does tend to make it easier for the laser to identify the pigment of your hair vs your skin, we can remove any hairs that aren’t just white peach fuzz.

Different skin and hair tones, types, and combinations will need different approaches, which is why you must consult accredited, reputable dermatologists and skin professionals like our team.

Always inform us of your medical history, current medications, and if you’re currently (or trying to become) pregnant so that we can make the best recommendations for you.

What to expect in your treatment sessions

Besides the long-lasting results, one of the benefits of laser hair removal is its ability to totally remove (or at least significantly thin) large areas of hair at once. We can treat any area that you would usually shave or wax. Our inMode laser can target:

When you come in for your laser hair removal sessions, we tailor your treatment plan to your specific aesthetic needs and goals. Session number, duration, and frequency depend on the area we’re treating, as well as your hair and skin type and tone.

To ensure silky smooth skin results by the summer, we typically recommend up to six laser hair removal treatments, with each session spaced six to eight weeks apart. Side effects like skin redness tend to be mild and brief, provided you’re diligent with sun protection before and after the procedure.
