The Benefits of Vaginal Rejuvenation

From the moment you pass through puberty, your health is dictated to a surprising degree by your reproductive system. From fluctuating hormone levels to childbirth, the effects on your vaginal health can be life-altering. Thankfully, new technology is answering the call, including our V-Lase® vaginal rejuvenation technology.

At Orange Coast Dermatology, our OB/GYN Viken Melkonian, MD, understands the challenges women face when it comes to the health of their vaginal tissue. Our team is uniquely qualified to restore skin and vaginal tissue health because we’re equipped with the latest noninvasive laser technologies.

Here’s a look specifically at what can happen to your vaginal tissue and how our V-Lase system can help.

Driving the changes in your vaginal health

There are several culprits when it comes to declining vaginal health, and perimenopause and menopause lead the charge. As you transition from your reproductive years to your nonreproductive years, your ovaries shut down, which means that your supply of estrogen drops precipitously.

While estrogen controls the release of your eggs, it also influences other areas of your health, including tissue health. As a result, approximately 50% of postmenopausal women experience some degree of vaginal atrophy.

This leads to symptoms such as:

While menopause is the primary cause of hormone-driven complications, if you’ve undergone cancer treatments that affect your levels of estrogen, you can experience these same problems.

Outside of hormones, childbirth can also affect your health, leaving you with lax vaginal tissue and a weaker bladder-support system.

Restoring order with vaginal rejuvenation

Traditionally, women going through menopause had one solution to choose from — hormone replacement therapy. This type of therapy is effective, but it’s not for everyone and doesn’t directly solve the problem of vaginal atrophy.

For a more focused approach, we turn to V-Lase, which delivers nonablative energy into your vaginal tissue to accomplish two objectives: 1) Encourage new collagen production through fibroblasts; and 2) Increase vascularization for an improved flow of resources to your vaginal tissue.

The laser energy passes harmlessly through the exterior surfaces of your vaginal tissue and heats the lower layers to a specific therapeutic level that encourages these processes.

The treatments themselves take only minutes, and Dr. Melkonian performs them right in our offices. When you’re finished, there’s no downtime and you’re free to get on with your day. Most of our patients require a series of treatments, which we space apart to allow time for your body to respond.

If you’d like to learn more about our cutting-edge vaginal rejuvenation technology, please contact one of our two offices in Rancho Santa Margarita or Mission Viejo, California, to set up an appointment.
